Girls Varsity Softball · Varsity Softball Comes Up Short Against McKinney North 5-9

Despite the loss, Lovejoy showed tremendous improvement from the last meeting between theses two teams.  Previously, the Lady Leopards managed 8 hits, but struck out 7 times.  This meeting proved the ability of Lovejoy and the desire to keep fighting.  Tonight, the Lady Leopards scored 5 runs on 14 hits and committed 4 errors.  McKinney North scored 9 runs on 13 hits and committed 2 errors.  The Lady Leopards did not strike out tonight.  In fact, Lovejoy scored 1 run in the 1st inning, 2 in the 2nd inning, 1 in the third inning, and 1 in the 5th inning.  McKinney North scored 4 in the bottom of the 1st, 2 in the bottom of the  4th inning, and 3 in the bottom of the 6th inning.

The runs scored were generated from the at bats at the plate . Mackenzie Mitchell had 3 hits, scored a run, and earned an RBI.  Carlee Schaeffer had 1 hit. Leah Taylor had 3 hits, scored twice, stole 1 base, and earned an RBI.  Delaney DiCristofaro had 3 hits, one short of hitting for the cycle.  She hit a triple her first at bat, a double her second at bat, and a single her next at bat.  She also had 2 RBI on the night.  Madeline Robinson had 2 hits, one of which was a double, and scored a run.  Sydney Provence had 1 hit.  Allysa Holstead had 1 hit, scored a run, and hit 1 RBI.

Sydney Provence handled pitching duties in the circle and Celeste Soliz caught Provence behind the plate.  In the field, the Lady Leopards also turned another double play tonight.  Carlee Schaeffer made a diving catch and doubled off a runner at 1st with Rebecca Holiman.

Lovejoy will go back to work Tuesday against Denison at home for Red Out Night. Wear your red to show school spirit as the Lady Leopards fight for a top spot in district to close out the season at the end of next week.
