Girls Varsity Softball · Varsity Softball Loses Despite Early Lead Against Royse City

An explosive start for the Lady Leopards wasn’t enough to contain the hitting of the Royse City Bulldogs in tonight’s contest.  These two former district competitors fought hard, but Royse City’s 9 runs on 15 hits topped Lovejoy’s 5 runs on 10 hits.

Lovejoy scored first in the top of the 2nd inning.  Rebecca Holiman led off with a line drive single to left field.  Madeline Robinson followed with a bunt for a base hit, advancing Holiman on to 2nd base.  Bailey Bradshaw put down a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error by the 3rd baseman.  Leah Taylor hit a screaming line drive at the shortstop, who made the catch and doubled off Bradshaw at 1st base.  With runners at 2nd and 3rd, Mackenzie Mitchell singles on a ground ball to shortstop scoring Holiman from 3rd base and advancing Robinson.  Carlee Schaeffer triples to centerfield and scores Robinson and Mitchell.  Celeste Soliz hits a fly ball to left causing an error, Schaeffer scores, and Soliz is thrown out trying to advance to 2nd base after the run scored.  Royse City was unable to answer back offensively.

Lovejoy scores fast in the top of the 3rd on a lead off line drive dinger over the centerfield wall by Delaney DiCristofaro.  Two batters later, Robinson ropes a double toward center field, but Lovejoy was unable to capitalize.  Royse City came blazing through the batter’s box racking up 4 runs and allowing Lovejoy the close 5-4 score.  The 5 runs were not enough and as the 6th inning came and the 6th inning went, it was apparent the team who continues to put the ball in play, is the the team who will win.

Royse City scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and 5 runs in the 6th inning compared to Lovejoy who scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning,  and 1 run in the 3rd inning.  Royse City out hit Lovejoy 15-10.

Offensively, Mackenzie Mitchell went 3 for 3 with an RBI and she scored a run.  Carlee Schaeffer with 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and scored a run.  Delaney DiCristofaro went 2 for 3 with a home run, 1 RBI, drew a walk, and scored a run.  Rebecca Holiman went 1 for 4 and scored a run.  Madeline Robinson went 2 for 3, with a walk and she scored a run.

Sydney Provence received the start in the game and threw 6 strikeouts to Celeste Soliz, Lovejoy’s catcher.  Bailey Bradshaw came in as relief of Provence, but Provence reentered the game as the Flex (not hitting).

Lovejoy will go back to work tomorrow in preparation for the next game, which is away on Thursday against Mt. Pleasant.
