The Leopards Track and Field team scored 102 points with their sprinters and field event athletes in the Big Green Relays in Waxahachie on Friday, March 8th.
The Leopards took home 1st place medals in the Shot Put, Discus, 100m, and 200m events. James Rainey won both the Shot Put and Discus for the second consecutive meet. Rainey’s throw of 51’9″ in the Shot Put secured 1st place over teammate Nathaniel Finch’s 2nd place throw of 47’0.” In the Discus event, Rainey’s 1st place mark of 156’1″ outdistanced Finch’s 2nd place mark of 149’5″.
Ryan Gordon broke his own school record in the 100m with a time of 10.56, winning the 100m, and Jake Chamberlin won the 200m with a time of 22.38. Cade Smith scored in all three events he entered on the day: 3rd place in the High Jump, clearing 6’2″, 4th place in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.44, and a 5th place finish in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 42.04.
Other point scorers for the team included: Dylan Neitsch, 2nd place in the Pole Vault (13’0″), Michael DesJardins, 5th place in the Pole Vault (12’0″), 4x100m Relay team of Chief Collins, Chamberlin, Beau Iovinelli, and Gordon, 2nd place (42.42), Iovinelli, 4th place in the 200m (23.23), Triton Freels, 5th place in the Triple Jump (39’8″), and the 4x400m Relay team of Andrew Godipelly, Luke Mayfield, Leighton Archer, and Jordan Grebe, 6th place (3:41.29).
The JV Leopards finished in 6th place overall, scoring 50 points. Carson Person took home a 1st place medal by winning the 800m with a time of 2:15.80 and Sam Clay won the 400m with a time of 54.31.
