The Leopards hosted 48 different schools at the 2019 Lovejoy Spring Distance Festival on Saturday, March 9th. Athletes competed in the 800m, high school and middle school 1600m, 3200m, and 2K Steeplechase. The Leopards had top 5 finishes in each event, including two 1st place finishes in the 800m and 2k Steeplechase.
Will Muirhead and Trevor Malik started off the day with two sub 2-minute 800m. Muirhead won the event with a time of 1:58.15 and Malik finished 4th with a time of 1:59.52. Nine Leopards finished with times under the 5-minute mark in the 1600m with Michael O’Brien leading that group with a time of 4:27.22, finishing 5th. The 3200m featured 3 Leopards: Malik finished 5th with a time of 10:11.45, Alex Pedersen finished 8th with a time of 10:24.74, and Finn McGoldrick finished 13th with a time of 11:00.54.
The night was completed with the running of the 2k Steeplechase. Brady Laboret won the event with a time of 6:21.58. Chayden Du Bois finished 3rd with a time of 6:30.13. Other Leopards competing in the 2k Steeplechase included: Zane Edwards (6:32.76), Matthew Murray (7:01.87), Collin Jones (7:34.61), and Jacob Beets (7:41.11).
Three Willow Springs athletes competed in the Boys 1600m. Logan Pedersen finished 8th with a time of 5:14.45, Hayden Day finished 13th with a time of 5:48.10, and Maximo Sanchez finished 17th with a time of 6:19.15.
