Girls Varsity Softball · Varsity Softball Falls to Celina 5-6

The Lady Leopard Varsity Softball team gave the Bobcats a scare in the top of the 7th with Delaney DiCristofaro’s 3 run blast over the right field wall, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Celina scoring to end the game.

Sydney Provence pitched her best outing of 2019 allowing no earned runs, no walks, and stuck out four.  Celeste Soliz teamed up behind the plate allowing no passed balls and no attempts of stealing by the Celina runners.

The Leopard defense struggled in the contest committing a total of 6 errors, but didn’t stop fighting offensively.  As a team, the Leopards scored 5 runs on 8 hits and drew 2 walks, compared to Celina who had 6 runs on 8 hits.  Celina held Lovejoy scoreless through six innings of work, but gave up the 5 runs on a team effort of work in the top of the 7th inning.  Bailey Bradshaw drew a walk and Leah Taylor followed with a bunt, which resulted in an error and Bradshaw making it all the way from 1st base to 3rd base. Mackenzie Mitchell singled up the middle scoring Bradshaw.  Carlee bunted, reached on an error, and Taylor was able to score on the play.  DiCristofaro put the ball on a rope and hit a line drive shot over the right field wall to put the Leopards ahead in the top of the 7th.  Lovejoy got two quick outs in the bottom of the 7th on a fly out to Mitchell in centerfield and a strikeout by Provence in the circle.  Though the end of the game was marked by defensive errors, the Lady Leopards went down fighting.

Key contributors offensively include Mackenzie Mitchell who had 2 hits and scored once.  Carlee Schaeffer had 1 hit.  Delaney DiCristofaro not only hit the home run, but also a triple in the contest.  Madeline Robinson had 2 hits on the night.

The Lady Leopards go back to work on Tuesday as they travel to play Royse City.
