Something had to give, and tonight the Denison Yellowjackets were the victim of a week’s worth of scoring frustration by the boys. A cold night turned warm quickly as Caleb Toomey opened all scoring 2 minutes into the game that gave our squad the early lead that has been so kind to them all season. Goal number 2 followed fast, then 3, then 4, and 5, as the first half saw the Leopards go into halftime with a commanding lead. The second frame was much of the same as the boys dominated possession, 50/50 balls, and the tempo to cruise to an 8-0 win. Caleb Toomey led all scorers with a hat trick, Benji Merrick and Tyler Loop both added a brace, and Diego Rodriquez chipped in with his own goal from outside the 18-yard box. Assist leaders tonight were Michael Myers, Gavin Goodrich, Michael Branch (2), Cade Novicke, and Toomey. Receiving full points tonight, the boys are in a tight race with Wylie East and McKinney North for the top spot in the district table.
In the first game, the JV Leopards were able to get up early as well, dominating the flow of the game, and ultimately winning 7-0. The win increases the boy’s record to 11-4-2 and has them sitting on top of the district in points.
Both teams will travel to Sherman Tuesday night to take on the feisty Bearcats. Kickoff is at 5:30 and 7:15.
