The Lady Leopard Varsity Softball team traveled to Plano East to face the Panthers. Despite the 5-0 lead through 2 innings, Lovejoy loses to Plano East 6-14. Lovejoy scored 6 runs on 11 hits and Plano East scored 14 runs on 13 hits in the contest.
The defense made easy outs behind pitcher, Bailey Bradshaw, in the first 2 innings. In fact, out of the first 6 outs, Bradshaw caused the Plano East hitters to pop up or fly out for the first 5 of those outs. Lovejoy used a pitching duo in the circle between Bradshaw and Sydney Provence, but the Plano East hitters were too much for the Leopard pitchers. Bradshaw was relieved by Provence in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but came back into the game in the bottom of the 4th. Unfortunately, the damage was done and the Panther hitters had racked up 13 hits in the contest. The defense struggled as the Plano East hitters continued to put the ball in play, but refused to quit fighting despite the hits or the score.
Overall, the Leopards racked up 11 hits in the contest scoring even in the end when the team could have easily given up. Grit and pure determination propelled one more run being scored in the top of the 6th to give the team their 6th run of the game. Offensively, the scoring charge was a team effort. Mackenzie Mitchell had 2 hits and scored twice. Carlee Schaeffer had 1 hit on the night. Celeste Soliz had 2 hits and scored twice. Delaney DiCristofaro had 3 hits with 4 RBI, including a double. Rebecca Holiman had 1 hit. Holly Massey and Leah Taylor both drew walks. Bailey Bradshaw had a double and scored 1 run. Lastly, Madeline Robinson had 1 hit, 2 RBI, and drew a walk.
The Lady Leopards will travel this weeked to the Turf War Tournament hosted by Southlake Carroll, Northwest, and Byron Nelson high schools.
