Each week the Lovejoy Athletic Department will feature the outstanding contributions from a member of our coaching staff.  We appreciate the time, dedication, and the leadership that they invest in our student-athletes.  This week’s Spotlight is on ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­head boys’ soccer coach, Alex Duran.

The boys’ soccer team once again had an incredible season capturing back to back District Championships and advancing to the Regional Quarter-Finals in the playoffs.

The Lovejoy Athletic Department wants to congratulate Coach Duran on another outstanding season.

How many years and at what schools have you coached?  15 years (Mesquite Horn, Allen, & Lovejoy)

How many years have you coached in Lovejoy?  4 Years

What coaching awards have you received?  District Coach of the Year

What is the best part of coaching in Lovejoy?  The support from the administration and the community who will do whatever it takes for our kids to be successful.

What is one of your most memorable moments in coaching?  In taking over a program it would have to be the first year we made the playoffs but there have been great memories since then as well.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?  Zinedine Zidane the head coach of Real Madrid. Because of his calm nature under pressure. He is also one of the top 5 players ever to play the game which is a tribute to him because the best players aren’t always the best coaches.

What do you like to do outside of work?  I like to spend time with family and play golf.

What is the best part of being a coach?  Having an opportunity to bring of young me together to achieve a common goal who are all different and have different skill sets. It is magical when it comes together for all involved.
