Leopards News · Senior Spotlight: Shanel Bramschreiber

This week’s Senior Spotlight focuses on Libero Shanel Bramschreiber.

After only two short years at Lovejoy, Shanel has made a big impact on the LOJO Volleyball program. Stepping into a defensive specialist role last year, Bramschreiber was a back row stand out dishing out 444 digs in 2016. As the starting Libero in 2017, Shanel played in all but 5 sets the entire season and contributed an outstanding 638 total digs, averaging 4.5 digs per set. Her leadership and passion for the game always made an impact on the team in time outs and on the court. Shanel has a high volleyball IQ that allows her to see the play develop and is always in the right spot at the right time.

A highly decorated athlete, Shanel earned the District 15-5A Most Valuable Player for the 2017 season as well as being named in the top 100 players in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com’s Senior Aces list. In 2015 Shanel was nominated to the USA Volleyball’s A1 National Training Team and the 2015 AVCA Phenom List of players across the country. Bramschreiber also shared a USA Volleyball GJNC National Championship in 2012 with her Madfrog 12s team.

In addition to playing volleyball, Shanel also found a successful niche in high jump at Lovejoy. This past season she advances to the Area meet and jumped an impressive height of 4’10”. This was one of Shanel’s favorite memories outside of volleyball in addition to attending the Powder Puff football game during homecoming week. She says she has truly enjoyed the friends she’s made on and off the court at Lovejoy High School.

Shanel will graduate this December from LHS and begin her college career next semester at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Competing in the Big 12, the successful #19 Baylor faces tough opponents such as #5 University of Texas and #12 Kansas, where Lovejoy teammate Rachel Langs will be playing next year. Bramschreiber says she looks forward to helping her team get to the NCAA tournament and playing with former Plano Senior HS and Madfrog teammate, Mackenzie Snowden at Baylor.

A verbal and statistical leader on the team, Shanel leaves some big shoes to fill for the 2018 Lovejoy Volleyball season. She hopes to inspire the next generation of volleyball players with these lasting words of wisdom, “Don’t be intimidated by players that are better than you. Learn from them so that one day you can be better than them.”

Thank you Shanel for your leadership and consistency you brought to the Lovejoy Volleyball program. You will be missed! Good luck you Baylor Bear!
