Multiple Teams · Lovejoy Track and Field Honors Its Record-Breaking Season

The 2016-2017 Track and Field season was like no other for the boys and girls track and field teams. The boys and girls teams had 147 athletes participate in 17 track and field events this season. The teams combined to set 16 school records, 11 District Champions, 8 Area Champions, a Regional Champion, a Regional Runner-up, and at the State Track and Field Championships, a State Champion and a Bronze medalist. The boys’ team also won the District and Area Championships.

The annual Track and Field banquet was held on Wednesday, May 16th to celebrate the record-breaking season. Junior, Chase Van Wagoner was named as the MVP for the Boys’ team and Junior, Grace Ridgeway was named MVP for the Girls’ team. Ridgeway ended her season at the State Track Meet as the State Champion in the Pole Vault event with a vault of 12’3″. Van Wagoner’s season also ended with a State Championships appearance, a 3rd place finish in the Long Jump with a jump of 23’4″. Both athletes were multi-event athletes for their respective teams. Ridgeway set individual school records in the Pole Vault (12’6″) and 300m Hurdles (43.82). She was also a member of two record-breaking relay teams, the Spring Medley Relay (4:22.59) and the 4x100m Relay (48.19). Van Wagoner set the school record in the Long Jump (23’4″), tied Aaron Fuller’s school record in the 100m (10.79), and was also involved in two record-breaking relay teams, the 4x100m Relay (42.02), and the 4x200m Relay (1:28.43).
