Leopards News · Record setting start to 2016-17 Swim Season in Rockwall


Varsity swimming is back in record setting fashion for the 2016-17 school year. The teams opened up their 2016-17 dual meet season last night in a tri-meet against Rockwall HS and Rockwall-Heath HS.

The Leopards, coming off of their sweep of District 11-5A last season, continued to impress in the first competition of the season with sophomore standout James Vaughn breaking the school record in the 500 yard freestyle in an event winning time of 5:01.94. In addition to the new school record, 13 Leopard swimmers contributed lifetime best performances the Leopards had 17 lifetime best performances,  including two each from sophomores Alex Burns and Brooke Buttner and juniors Kaeli Wilburn and Sam Veitch.

Five Leopard Swimmers captured wins in individual events:

Jakob Feldman (9th) 200 IM; James Vaughn (10th) – 100 Butterfly, 500 Freestyle; Sloan Carevic (11th) 100 Breastroke; Julliette Pages (10th) – 100 Backstroke; Natalie Womack (10th) 200 IM

The Lady Leopards (1-1) defeated Rockwall Heath 120-27, while the boy’s Varsity (1-1) won 123-33. Both teams were defeated by Rockwall High School, the Lady Leopards 57-107 and boy’s Varsity 69-94.

The Swim Team will be in action again on Tuesday October 4th when they face regional foes, Frisco Wakeland and Frisco Reedy at the Bruce Eubanks Natatorium (5:30pm).
