Former Lovejoy Basketball player Morgan Hancock will participate in today’s NCAA Division II basketball championship game in Indianapolis as a part of the Lady Chaps basketball team of Lubbock Christian. Morgan was a part of the Lovejoy Girls Basketball team that finished second at state. Morgan currently serves as a Student Assistant for Lubbock Christian where she helps with all aspects of the program, including game day needs, assisting coaches, and in game stats. Morgan’s perseverance through many setbacks as a Leopard and early in her time with the Lady Chaps have proven that sticking to your dreams, working hard, and being persistent pay off.
Morgan spoke about the best things about being at LCU. “Being at a Christian college and the way a program can be built out of love and faith, and that it (the game) is for something bigger is very important.” She also says being able to work with a well respected program and coach has been a blessing. Hancock has been under the guidance of LCU’s Coach Gomez, who was named the National Coach of the Year. Morgan says one of the best things about her current position is that, “she is still able to be around basketball, even after her playing career ended…learning more about the game from quality people and coaches. ”
Morgan says of her time at Lovejoy: “It helped me grow as a person. Life is bigger than a game, it’s bigger than the wins and the losses. It’s about the people you’re with. Lovejoy gave me some great memories to hold on to. Thank you to all my coaches for the support along the way.”
Morgan hopes to work with kids and families in the role of counselor after she graduates from LCU. She plans to incorporate her love of sports into this career choice.Good luck to Morgan and the LCU Women’s basketball program tonight from your Lovejoy family!
