Coach Jerry Quinton is this weeks WSMS “Coach of the Week”. Coach Quinton will become the Boy’s Athletic Coordinator next Fall (16-17). Jerry has many years of successful teaching & coaching in the Collin County area. “Jerry has a true passion for all students/athletes. I’ve witnessed his respectful communication style with all our athletes. He has a common sense approach to motivating our kiddos to do their best each and every day. Favorite Sport: Baseball Why: Because to truly appreciate the game you must understand the games within the game. There are so many things going on that most people will never understand.
Favorite Athlete: Jim Thorpe Why: Perhaps the greatest all-around athlete to ever exist.
Favorite Coach: Gerald Winnard Why: Coach Winnard taught me so many things about working hard and treating people the right way. He has been a huge influence in my coaching style.
Athletic Background: Lettered in football, baseball, wrestled and ran track in HS. I played 4 years of college baseball at East Central University as a pitcher/outfielder.
Athletic Awards: All Region football and baseball, All State honorable mention baseball. Oklahoma Intercollegiate academic all-conference baseball.

Coaching Background: I coached at Community HS for 4 years prior to coming to Lovejoy. I was the head baseball coach and also coached varsity football as well as serving as the middle school coordinator. At Lovejoy I coached baseball for my first 4 years as the varsity first assistant and was the interim head coach in the spring of 2011. I also have coached Varsity football for the last 4 years. The last two years I have been the head middle school wrestling coach.
Coaching Awards: 2011 District 11-3A Baseball coaching staff of the year
Favorite Coaching Moment: Watching the walk-off homerun clear the fence in game one of our playoff series vs Argyle in 2011. They won game two by walk-off and we lost game 3 to end the season. Two of the most exciting HS games I have ever seen.
Philosophy of Coaching: I want to coach each athlete with the understanding that they are someone’s child and coach them the way I would want someone to coach my children.
Hobbies: Fishing, collecting baseball cards, creating art and furniture from reclaimed materials.
Something that people may not know about you: I am a trained forensic interviewer.
