On Thursday 2/18/16, the Lovejoy Boys distance track squad entered eight runners in the Wylie East Mike Williams Invitational. All of the runners had exceptional races to kick off the 2016 track season.
JV Boys 3200M
Michael O’Brien ran a very intelligent race by holding off from the fast early pace, worked his way up through the pack and recorded his first race win as a high school freshman with a time of 11:27! Eli Ruhala also competed in the race and went under 12:00 for his first time at 11:46.
Varsity Boys 3200M
Trevor Joiner is following the footsteps of his older brothers by finishing 4th in the varsity 3200M and going under 11:00 for the first time at 10:56. Freshman Collin Jones ran a personal best time of 12:03 and is well on his way to a strong season.
JV Boys 800M
Eli Ruhala ran well for his first 800M in his high school career running 2:21. Freshman, Brent Hendrix also had a good evening establishing a personal best in the 800 at 2:32.
Varsity Boys 800M
Josh Luck ran his best race in 2 seasons setting a personal best of 2:13.
JV Boys 1600M
William Godfrey brought home Lovejoy’s second victory by running away with the mile in 5:10. Chaldean Dubois worked his way through the pack and was edged at the line for 2nd finishing in 3rd place at 5:17. This was an exciting race for the two freshmen.
Varsity Boys 1600M
Trevor Joiner and Colin Jones doubled back coming off of the 3200M earlier in the evening running 5:08 and 5:28 respectfully.
