The Willow Springs men’s wrestling team finished up Day 2 of the Middle School State Championship today and once again, finishes with multiple medalists!
The team, led by Head Coach Jerry Quinton and assistant coaches Tommy Poynter and Cole Kiefer, finished in the top 5 overall and came home with an individual champion and three other placers.
Ralph Rucker, 7th grade pictured, became one of three Lovejoy wrestlers in history to take home a state championship. Rucker won a dominant finals match by a score of 7-1. With Rucker’s accomplishment as a 7th grader, he will now have the chance to become the first ever 2X state champion in history in his 8th grade year.

Austin King, 8th grade, pictured on the podium after receiving his silver medal, wrestled a great tournament in his first year on the mats! King pinned his way to the final before falling in a close decision, 5-3.
Mitchell Howell, 8th grade, becomes a 2X state placer with his 3rd place finish today. Howell finished 5th last year as a 7th grader. Howell capped off his bronze medal match with a 3rd period pin.

Joe Ridgeway, 8th grade, completed a solid tournament in his 5th place bout with another win by pin. Rideway dominated his Allen opponent in his medal match, following up a first period takedown and near fall with another takedown and pin in the second.
