Multiple Teams · Lovejoy Cross Country Wins the Cowtown Challenge


The Lovejoy Cross Country team kicked its season off on Friday, 8/28/15, at the Cowtown Challenge in Haltom City. The course at “The Buff” provided to be a challenging course with a many rolling hills. Full results from Friday’s Cowtown Challenge can be found here.

LHS Varsity Boys
The Lovejoy Varsity Boys team entered the meet ranked as the #3 5A team in the state according to the CCCAT, #1 5A team on Tx.MileSplit.com, and #2 5A team on Txrunning.com. The Varsity Boys performed well in the 5A-6A Varsity Boys 5K division by claiming the overall team victory with a 51-76 victory over 2nd place Keller Central.

Lovejoy had 6 runners place in the top-20 of a field of 163 competitors with a team split time of only 37.2 seconds. The squad was led by junior Grant Tiff (16:47, 4th), who was joined in the top-10 overall by freshman Cole Hinton (17:08, 9th), and senior leader Noah Landguth (17:09, 10th). Rounding out the scoring were senior William Wise (17:16, 12th) and sophomore Ryan Brands (17:24, 16th). Hunter Joiner also put in a sub-17:30 effort finishing less than 2 seconds behind Ryan in 17th place.

LHS Varsity Girls
The Varsity Girls team finished 6th in team scoring with 165 points (10-30-36-43-46-65-70) and a team split time of 1:42.2.

Freshman Carson Hockersmith led the Lady Leopards squad with a top-10 finish (20:57, 10th). Sophomore Emily Gueller finished 32nd overall with a time of 22:04 followed by Senior, Madison Sutter finishing 39th in 22:12. New comer Ariaan Cnossen finished 48th overall in at 22:33. Senior Katie Albers rounded out the top five Lady Leopards at 22:40 to finish 51st overall.

LHS JV Boys
The Lovejoy JV Boys team entered the season ranked as the #6 pre-season JV team in the state for all schools in 1A-6A according to Tx.MileSplit.com. The JV Boys squad started the season with a strong showing in the 5A and Under JV Boys Division scoring a perfect team score of 15 points and winning the division.

Top-10 finishes for Lovejoy included Brett Pederson (18:14, 1st), William Godfrey (18:15, 2nd), Preston Tiff (18:55, 3rd), Trevor Joiner (18:56, 4th), Bradley Davis (18:56, 5th), Josh Luck (18:57, 6th), Kerry Joiner (19:00, 7th), and Dane Printz (19:10, 8th).

LHS JV Girls
Lovejoy JV Girls competed in two divisions – JV Girls 3200M and JV Girls 5A and under 5K.

First came the combined LHS/WSMS squad in a 3200-meter race where our girls finished a close 2nd to 6A Haltom City by a score of 48-65. WSMS runner Reagan Metacale claimed 1st place overall finishing with a time of 13:31.5. Two of the 3200M runners were not officially recorded due to a timing error – WSMS runners Erika Jenkins and Madison DuBois both finished in the top 10 earning medals. Junior Shaelyn Ballard (14:38, 7th) and WSMS Lily McCutcheon (14:41, 9th) also finished in the top 10. Freshman Gracie Turner (15:09, 17th) and WSMS Heidi Fisher (16:17, 39th) completed Lovejoy’s scoring.

The JV 5A and under 5K division team finished 4th overall with 132 points. Freshman Emma Satterwhite (25:19, 24th) led the squad, followed by freshman Katelyn Cardwell (25:32, 27th), sophomore Autumn Purcell (26:02, 30th), sophomore Alyssa De Torrice (26:08, 32nd), and freshman Summer George (26:20, 34th).
