Game Recap

Lovejoy earned their first playoff win since 2013 by playing with a never give up attitude. Mount Pleasant jumped out to an early lead by scoring the first eight points of the game. The Lady Tigers controlled most of the first half extending their lead to 29-18 with 30 seconds left to play. Lovejoy went on a 5-0 run to end the first half and take the momentum going into halftime only down by six, 29-23. All five points were scored by Kaylee Rekieta who finished the game with a career high 28 points. Both teams traded baskets in the 3rd quarter and the Leopards went into the 4th quarter down by a score of 39-34. Lovejoy tied the game 44-44 with 4:00 minutes left to play when Allison Hubble found Taylor Meixelsperger for an and one layup on a baseline underneath play. The next offensive possession Lovejoy took their first lead of the game when Meixelsperger drove baseline and assisted on a Rekieta three pointer in the corner right in front of the Lovejoy bench (click here for video). Lovejoy would put the game away by connecting on free throws down the stretch for a 53-46 victory. Scorers for Lovejoy were Kaylee Rekieta 28 points, Taylor Meixelsperger 14 points, Allison Hubble 4 points, Kim Lyne 4 points, Carsen McFadden 2 points, and Meredith Ehlmann 1 point. Other statistical leaders were Meixelsperger 7 assists, Rekieta and Hubble 6 rebounds, Rekieta 5 steals, and McFadden 1 charge. The win makes the Leopards 25-8 on the season and sets up a second round match up versus the #7th ranked team in class 5A, Frisco Lonestar (click here for entire list).
